About Recycled Glass Infused Pottery...
Using many of the same techniques used in traditional pottery, and then adding broken pieces of recycled glass for the kiln to melt, is the essence of the recycled glass infused pottery process. The crackle glass surface created is smooth to touch and sparkles with profound rich colors and textures. Other textures and designs in the clay are achieved with natural and found objects (impressing or drawing with rocks, shells, etc.) giving an organic, nature inspired feeling. Each piece is created to be a functional piece of art with as much versatility as possible. The crackle glass surface is semi-porous and fully heat resistant. This makes it useful for soap dishes, coasters, trivets, candleholders, and more. However, no consumable liquids or foods should be placed on the glass.

About the Potter...
Beginning with pottery classes in 1995, I soon found my niche combining clay and glass, creating functional art for the home and garden and providing affordable handmade gifts for men and women. Always trying to find use for things that may otherwise be thrown away naturally I was inspired to recycle glass in my pottery and created the line Recycled Glass Infused Paloma Pottery. It never ceases to amaze me how discarded things can become art and transform into something not only useful, but beautiful.

Reduce, re-use, recycle as a mission, Paloma Pottery emerged in Jan 2000. As a profession, it has been profoundly rewarding and therapeutic. ** NEW ** Paloma Pottery is now recycling broken glass from local business Louis Auto Glass in Bellingham, WA. This glass collected is diverted from the local waste stream. Instead of going to the dump, it is being recycled into glass fused ceramics. "Busting my glass for you," Paloma Pottery is turning old glass from trash to class.
Help Paloma Pottery Help Others...
With a passion for community service and a vision for Paloma Pottery to become a teaching tool, I have a long term goal to teach the recycled glass pottery process to at risk youth. My passion for community service began with AmeriCorps in 1997 when I served for a year in Albany, NY with the School Success Program. The program was designed to catch the kids falling through the cracks of the public school system. It was both rewarding and inspiring. I continued on to teach Spanish, my second language I learned studying abroad in Chile. At which point, volunteering and working with the "at risk youth" population became a life-long goal.
Though I currently live and work in Washington State, much of my learning was with my mentor, Liz Vigoda, in Albany, New York. Another mentor, the founder of the Body Shop, Anita Roddick, inspired me with her belief that social responsibility in business is just good practice and good business. I truly enjoy donating pieces to help raise funds for charities and nonprofit organizations. I can only hope to move people the way that so many have moved me.
