Maybe home is all the little, familiar things. Just like trust with family and friends, research shows, is made up of all the little moments of turning toward someone. Trust is built, perhaps, the same way home is created. By establishing routines of familiar steps - through a hallway or around a kitchen - or through depths of listening, checking in and following through.

When we’ve been away, it does seem that all the little things of our personal space are the most satisfying to meet again. That quirky creek in the floor we hear every time we go to make our morning coffee. Those unique household products or that faucet with the backwards handle. Just like the face of a beloved, with its little familiars - dimples and sparkles in the eye when speaking - are the most joyous to behold again. All the little things make home and love.
